Your information
What Umuzi Jobs holds about you, and why.
This is a draft, being reviewed by Umuzi's data team. If anything in it changes, we will tell you and ask you to read it again.
Umuzi Jobs runs under Umuzi's Privacy & Data Protection Policy, which covers your rights, how Umuzi secures your information, and how to reach us. This page adds what Umuzi Jobs specifically does:
- We record your job search. Which jobs you view, save, click Apply on, and dismiss, tied to your name, and which weeks you used Umuzi Jobs at all. The Launch Lab team uses it to source better roles and to follow up with you.
- After 12 months, your name comes off that record, permanently. What remains is anonymous numbers we keep to study what works. Nobody can link them back to you. Your saved jobs and applications stay yours while your account is active.
- Applying happens on the employer's site. We record that you went, and nothing after that. We never see their forms, your CV, or anything you send them; your application status is what you tell us.
- Signing in with a WhatsApp code sends your phone number to Meta, because that is how the message reaches you. The password door sends nothing anywhere.
- If you ask for new jobs by email, SendGrid sends them. It receives your email address, your name, and the titles of the jobs in the mail, and nothing about whether you opened it: we switch that tracking off. Nothing is sent unless you choose daily or weekly, and every mail has a link that stops them in one tap.
- If you list your skills, a reading service compares them with job adverts. TypeSafe AI receives the advert's title, summary and the skills it names, and your skills list, and nothing else about you: not your name, your email, or your qualification. It answers how much of what the advert names you have, and that is what puts “Strong match” on some jobs. It never hides a job from you.
- What you tell us about an application reaches the Launch Lab team on Slack, with your name. When you confirm you applied, say you are interviewing or have an offer, or tell us you found a job, paused, or are looking again, one line goes to a restricted Slack channel that only the Launch Lab team can read, so the person coaching you knows when to follow up. Once a week the same channel gets a short list of who seems stuck: applications with no news for two weeks, several applications and no reply to any of them, or a lot of jobs saved and none applied to. Feedback you send goes the same way. If you would rather not have your name on it, speak to somebody on the team directly.
- The app runs on Render, in Frankfurt, Germany. They host it and do not use it.
